Our head instructor, Scott
Redstone, is a law enforcement officer with over 20 years of martial
arts experience.
Scott is ranked as a full instructor under Professor Salem Assli in Jun Fan Gung Fu, Filipino Kali, and Savate (Silver Glove). He is a certified instructor for the Reflex Women's Self Defense program, and is also a certified instructor in Jaw & Limb Control, Professional Hand Cuffing, and Extendable Baton under Phil Messina. In 2006 Scott was a member of the Canadian Boxe Francaise kickboxing team and became the first Canadian male to reach the quarter finals at the World competition in Paris, France. Scott has taught martial arts, women's self defense, and security courses to civilians and police officers across Canada and the United States. Shawn's martial arts
journey began almost 30 years ago with Judo and Boxing at a local
YMCA. From that start he explored a number of martial arts
including Shotokan Karate, Kempo, Hung Gar, and Seven Star Mantis. In 1996 Shawn was introduced to the late Dale Johns, founder of the Integral Combat System, and started training in Jeet Kune Do Concepts. He continued his training at ICS under Ron Ingram, Carla Nonni, and John Glover, and by 2004 Shawn was helping to teach classes at the Integral Combat / York University Kung Fu & Kickboxing program. That same year he started training in Jun Fan , Savate, and Kali under Scott Redstone of Trinity Martial Arts. Shawn is ranked as an apprentice instructor in Jun Fan Gung Fu, Savate White Glove, and Initiator under Professor Salem Assli of the Inosanto Academy. Janesse
began training in the same Montreal club as Scott Redstone in 1993,
under instructor Michael Gregory. During her three years at McGill
she studied Muay Thai, Capoeira, Kali, Jun Fan, Tae Kwon Do,
Shorin-Ryu Karate, Wing Chun and self-defense and was introduced to
savate under Salem Assli.
Returning to her home province of Nova Scotia,
Janesse continued her training in capoeira and took up boxing at the
Evangeline Trail Boxing Club in Nova Scotia. Moving to Toronto, Janesse explored local opportunities in to train Tae Kwon Do, Wing-Chun and Wu-Shu before re-uniting with Scott Redstone and continuing to train under Salem Assli. She performed stunts and martial arts in several small independent films and trained and also taught at the Toronto School of Circus Arts. Janesse's martial arts passion since 2004 has been competitive kickboxing. She has trained and fought in competitive Boxe-Francaise Savate, Muay Thai and Boxing under the guidance of highly-ranked European champion Gaelle Villette, with Cabbagetown Boxing and with Toronto Kickboxing & Muay Thai. Janesse has been fortunate enough to complete seminars in her favorite martial sport, Boxe-Francaise Savate, under 10-time World Champion Richard Sylla, Paris's Yonnel Kurtz, French national coaches Hubert Abela, Hugues Relier and Christophe Neuville, French National Technical Director Victor Sebastiao and Belgian National Technical Director Alexandre Walnier. She has has enjoyed training as a guest with International Savate Federation President Gilles le Duigou, two-time assaut World Champion Reda Karoum, the UK's Martin Ross, French National Team coach Fathi Mira and Australia's Terrence Bridgeman.
Janesse earned
a 2009 bronze medallist in combat (full-contact) Boxe-Francaise
Savate and continues to be passionate about learning, teaching and
developing the practice of this art.
